Lee Harden
I'm an enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe in northern Wisconsin and the Principal Owner of RedTail Market, a multiple merchant e-commerce website built to support all North American Native artists and crafters. My education is from Dutchess Community College and Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York majoring in Business Administration. I spent 15 years with IBM and as an independent business owner before transitioning to casino gaming in 1993. After 14 years as a Director of Marketing I now spend my time assisting North American Native artists and crafters in becoming more successful with their work. The development of RedTail Market has come from many years of appreciation of the skills and talent of Native artists all over North America and the desire to provide them with a venue to bring more local, regional and global exposure to their work. The site is intended to create an online Native artisan community engaged in the business of cultivating their work and supporting each other.

Sam's says what drives him "...is a desire to celebrate Native American culture in all its pride, integrity and spirituality. He says he refuses to perpetuate the image of the beaten-down and defeated Indian. To this end, he says he always tries to paint Indians "looking straight forward or at the sky - never looking down."

Royce Manuel - stone knapper
Posted by Lee Harden on 05/10/2011 at 02:05am
We met Royce Manuel from the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community at the Heard Museum Indian Market in Phoenix this year. He fashions bows and arrows the same way his dad did in 1926. Royce is an educator and enjoys sharing the Maricopa way of life during his demonstrations to students...a truly talented artist.
